Since you probably have quite a few pairs of shoes, storage space is important, so you can find each pair when you want it. If your shoes are forever in a pile, or otherwise unorganized, you can organize them with a handy storage system for shoes.
Shoes can end up strewn from your closet to the space under your bed, and everywhere in between. Your shoe piles may contain unmatched pairs, shoes that are well-worn, and shoes that you use only in certain seasons. Since your shoes are probably the last thing you put on, it would be great if you could grab the pair you want the first time, instead of fishing for a shoe's mate when you're late for work. A proper shoe storage system can allow you to easily find the pair of shoes you want for the outfit you already have on.
The first thing to do when you set out to organize your shoes is to get them all together and send the shoes you don't wear anymore to Goodwill or Salvation Army. Grab your shoes from the various parts of the house where they have ended up, and put them all together. Make sure each shoe is stored with its mate. Put the shoes you no longer wear into a separate box for donation or to be thrown away, if they are too worn-out to donate.
Next, separate your shoes by the season they are made for. A winter pile, a summer pile, and so on, will be needed. After you separate the shoes, storage bins can hold just dress shoes or casual shoes. Shoe boxes that are clear are the handiest to use for storage, so you can scan all your shoes and easily select the pair you want. Shelf space is usually at a premium, so stacking boxes work the best for shoe storage. You can also try shoe organizers that hang over the door, and even tall organizers that spin so you can find the pair you want easily.
Once you have separated the shoes by season, they can be further organized. Keep shoes that are for the off-season, and rarely worn shoes, in the area of your closet that is the hardest to get to, since you won't need them as often. When the seasons change, you can rotate your shoe boxes so that the current season's shoes are always in front.
There are different types of organizers, but each one will help you solve the problem of not being able to find your shoes when you're getting dressed. The type of solution you decide upon will depend on how much space your closet has, in what way you'd like to utilize that space, and how you would really like your shoes stored.
Cubbies are handy, because they both protect and store shoes. They are usually stackable, which means they will take up less floor space. However, some are too small for larger mens' shoes, or womens shoes with high heels. Try other options like shoe racks and over-the-door holders if the cubbies don't solve your shoes' storage problems.
